Tentative Itinerary

March 11-19, 2016 (Spring Break)

toucan belizeMarch 11 - Air travel from Austin (AUS) to Belize (BZE); bus travel to Succotz in Western Belize; overnight stay at the Trek Stop the next four nights

March 12 -- Hike in the forests adjacent to the Trek Stop; visit a Butterfly Garden

March 13 — Visit a well-known Mayan site and study in the surrounding forest and river.

March 14 — Trip to Tikal in Guatemala; explore some of the most spectacular Mayan ruins in the world and see lots of rain forest wildlife

March 15 — Bus trip to Belize City; Water taxi to Caye Caulker in the Caribbean; overview of the island ; overnight at Tom’s Hotel the next four nights

March 16 — Snorkeling lessons; snorkel in the lagoon; study beach plant communities

March 17 — Snorkeling trip to visit Hol Chan Marine Bioreserve and other reef areas

March 18 — Snorkeling trip to the mangroves and at  Goff ‘s Caye

March 19 — Commuter airline flight from Caye Caulker to Belize City; international flight to Austin

Course Fees

"Doc" Meissner has been leading CTX travel courses to exotic locations for  years, and his trips always earn rave reviews.  Belize is one of his favorite locations - he's been there more than 30 times!

How to Enroll


  1. Contact Study Abroad Coordinator Richard Potts in office F211. Or meet with course instructor Dr. Larry Meissner for permission to enroll.

  2. Submit Travel Course Enrollment Packet (available in Office of Study Abroad, F211).

  3. Pay nonrefundable deposit of $300.
