Nursing Overview

BSN Overview

Three very distinct ways are available to obtain a BSN at Concordia. Applicants who are not Registered Nurses may be admitted to the traditional track or the Accelerated BSN program. The traditional track is a four-year program of study with the two distinct parts listed below. The Accelerated BSN program is for students with previous college experience in a non-nursing field. Applicants who are Registered Nurses in Texas or a Compact State may be admitted to the non-traditional track and be awarded credit for previous nursing education. The non-traditional track is offered online.

BSN Traditional 4-Year Track

A required sequence consists of courses in the sciences and humanities that provide students a solid foundation for the art and science of caring for others. Within one semester of completing the pre-nursing sequence, students apply for admission to the professional nursing sequence in the School of Nursing.

The School of Nursing has two distinct parts:

  1. The Pre-Nursing sequence of courses is taken the first two years.
  2. During the last semester of Pre-Nursing coursework, a student may apply for the BSN professional sequence of courses, which is taken the last two years of the BSN program.

Admission to the Concordia University Texas School of Nursing is highly competitive. We recommend maintaining communication with your faculty advisor throughout the process if you are a current Concordia student or your transfer admissions counselor for incoming transfer students coming directly into Professional Nursing Sequence.

To qualify for the online-based Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, students must have previous college experience in a non-nursing field. Students complete coursework online, participate in nursing simulation and skills labs at our ABSN Learning Site, and complete in-hospital clinical rotations as part of a blended curriculum.
