M.Ed. Program Information

Advanced Literacy Instruction

This specialization prepares teachers for literacy instruction at early childhood, elementary, middle school or high school levels.

Students completing this specialization will also be eligible to take the TExES Reading Specialist exam and with a passing score will become certified as a Reading Specialist. A 16-week case study is required.

Curriculum & Instruction with Teacher's Certification

Designed to build intellectual and instructional skills, as well as understanding of technological applications, the Curriculum and Instruction specialization is perfect for those looking to teach in a specific content area. The Curriculum and Instruction with Teacher Certification is designed for students who have a bachelor’s degree and wish to enter the education field as a teacher. At the end of the program the student will receive a Master’s of Education degree and be eligible to take the State of Texas teacher certification test provided all of the content specific coursework is completed.

Program Highlights

  • Designed around a cohort model, a group of students begin and complete the two year M.Ed. program together by following the prescribed course sequence for their specialization. 
  • The cohort meets at one central location, and classes are taught by local administrators and professionals experienced in the field. 
  • The final  semester involves a full time 12 week student teaching experience and completing the action research course.
  • Areas of concentration include:  ECE – 12th, Content, and Generalist

Differentiated Instruction

The Master of Education in Differentiated Instruction provides educators with a sequence of courses that imparts knowledge and practical guidelines on how to adjust instruction in specific cases for students who need modifications in the classroom.

Educational Administration

This specialization prepares students to sit for the TExES Principal Certification Exam #068. Students must have two full years teaching experience as defined by the district record. A 16-week practicum is required. 

Graduate students selecting this specialization will:

  • Meet principal certification requirements set forth by the State of Texas
  • Display ethical and Christian leadership skills necessary to help students grow in a healthy and productive manner
  • Display all the skills necessary to be a successful administrator at private or public schools
  • Be trained in federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Receive ILD (Instructional Leadership Development) and PDAS (Professional Development Appraisal System) training
  • Complete a practicum as an acting administrator at the campus or district level

 Candidates for the Texas Principal certificate must:

  1. Hold a master's degree
  2. Hold a valid classroom teaching certificate
  3. Have a minimum of one full creditable year of classroom teaching experience in a K-12 school as defined by the district record.
  4. Successfully complete a principal preparation program
  5. Obtain permission from Concordia to sit for the Texas principal certification exam (this is done by passing the practice exam with a score of 80% or better)
