Students completing this specialization will also be eligible to take the TExES Reading Specialist exam and with a passing score will become certified as a Reading Specialist. A 16-week case study is required.

Candidates for the Texas Principal certificate must:
- Hold a master's degree
- Hold a valid classroom teaching certificate
- Have a minimum of one full creditable year of classroom teaching experience in a K-12 school as defined by the district record.
- Successfully complete a principal preparation program
- Obtain permission from Concordia to sit for the Texas principal certification exam
