Harden Healthcare CEO, Lew Little, named

Concordia's 2013 Excellence in Leadership Gala honoree

Concordia University Texas is pleased to announce an honoree for the seventh annual Excellence in Leadership Gala, to be held Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. at the Four Seasons Hotel Austin. The Excellence in Leadership Gala recognizes an outstanding Christian leader and raises money for the University’s scholarship fund. This year, the event will honor Lew N. Little Jr., chief executive officer and co-founder of Harden Healthcare, LLC, and current chair of the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce.

“I am humbled to have been chosen as the Concordia University Texas Excellence in Leadership honoree,” Little said. “I believe leadership is about empowering those around me to do the best job they can do, so that as a team, we provide the best possible care and service to our patients each day. This award is a testament to the superb work of the entire Harden Healthcare family.”

Harden Healthcare is a leading senior health care services provider. The company’s services include home health, hospice care, assisted living, skilled nursing and rehabilitation. Headquartered in Austin, Harden’s family of companies cares for more than 35,000 patients a day. The company strives to provide the best care for its patients and a sense of pride and purpose for its associates.

Under Little’s leadership, Harden, which was founded in 2001, has become one of Austin’s largest privately held companies. The company employs more than 4,000 people in Austin and more than 33,000 nationwide. Little grew his company from just six facilities in Texas to forming and operating multiple subsidiaries in more than 13 states.

Little instills Christian leadership in all of his facilities with a “spiritual component,” including an on-site chaplain for all patients.

In addition to his work with the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, Little serves on the boards of the Alliance for Home Health Quality and Innovation, Andrew Harper Travel, ECG Foundation and the Austin Community Foundation. He is a member and former chapter chair of the Austin chapter of the World Presidents Organization (WPO) and a member of the Texas Business Leadership Council. In 2005, Little was named “Entrepreneur of the Year” in Austin by Ernst and Young.

Born and raised in Austin, Little earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing and his Master’s of Business Administration, with a concentration in finance, from The University of Texas at Austin.

Little has been married to his wife, Jeanne, for 31 years. They have three grown children, Wesley, Anne, and Elizabeth. The Littles reside in west Austin and are members of Tarrytown United Methodist Church.

“Lew (Little) is the epitome of a servant leader, and we are blessed to honor him,” Dr. Tom Cedel, president of Concordia University Texas, said. “He makes a difference in the lives of so many, and I am confident that he will be an inspiration for others.”
