Building Course Content

How do I post my syllabus?

The Build Content method for this process is generally discouraged. It is best to use Item instead, and attach the necessary file. For instructions, see How do I create an item? next.

How do I create an item?

  1. Select the course
  2. Select Course Content, then the Build Content dropdown menu.
  3. Choose Item.
  4. Name the item.
  5. Optional: Add instructions in the text box
  6. To attach any necessary documents, click Browse My Computer.
  7. Click Submit.

How do I post a URL?

  1. Select the course
  2. Select Course Content, then the Build Content dropdown menu.
  3. Choose URL.
  4. Name the URL.
  5. Type in the full link name. (i.e. http://www.myschool.edu)
  6. Optional: Enter a description of the URL or instructions.
  7. Click Submit.

How do I upload an image?

  1. Select the course
  2. Select Course Content, then the Build Content dropdown menu.
  3. Choose Image.
  4. Name the image.
  5. Find the image file you need by clicking on:
  • Browse My Computer: the image file is located on your computer
  • Browse Course: the image file is located in another Blackboard course
  • Browse Mashups: the image file is located on Flickr.

6. Important: In order to be ADA compliant, you must enter a short text description of the image in the Alt Text box.
7. Click Submit.

How do I upload an audio item?

  1. Select the course
  2. Select Course Content, then the Build Content dropdown menu.
  3. Choose Audio
  4. Name the item.
  5. Find the audio file you need by clicking on Browse My Computer or Browse Course (if the file is located in another Blackboard course)
  6. Change any necessary options
  7. Click Submit

How do I add navigation buttons to my course menu?

Adding navigation buttons in the course menu allows for easier navigation within your course.

  1. Click the plus sign button in the right corner of the course menu.
  2. Select Tool Link (for tools such as Discussion Board) or Course Link (for specific assignments such as a discussion thread)
  3. Click Browse to select a location.
  4. Optional: Edit the name.
  5. Click Submit. The button will be added, but it will have a symbol in the corner meaning it is not visible to students.
  6. Click the dropdown arrow next to the new button.
  7. Click Show Link to make the button visible to students.
