Biology Major – BS

The Biology Major is designed to educate students in the breadth of subject matter encompassed by the biological sciences.  Through critical thinking, hands-on experience, research, and investigation, students will develop an understanding of the field of Biology and gain a strong foundation for entry into a broad spectrum of graduate programs and careers in the biological sciences.

 

Core Curriculum - 55-57 credit hours

  • Courses in Religion, English, Fine Arts, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Kinesiology, Social/Behavioral Sciences, Communication, Classics/Humanities, and Leadership.

 

Major Requirements - 54-55 credit hours

  • BIO 1402 General Zoology
  • BIO 1403 Cellular & Molecular Biology
  • BIO 2403 General Botany
  • BIO 3404 Genetics
  • CHE 1401 Chemistry I
  • CHE 1402 Chemistry II
  • CHE 2401 Organic Chemistry I
  • CHE 2403 Organic Chemistry II
  • MTH 2401 Calculus I
  • PHY 1401 Physics I
  • PHY 1402 Physics II
  • SCI 4310 Natural Science Research  OR  BIO 4310 Biological Science Research

 

Plus 15 upper-level (3000 level or higher) credit hours of electives

They must be BIO and SCI courses. No more than 6 credit hours may be field classes.

Biology Major – BA

The Biology Major (BA) is designed to provide exploration into the field of Biology.  Students will develop an understanding of the biological sciences and promote stewardship of the biotic environment.

 

Core Curriculum - 55-57 credit hours

  • Courses in Religion, English, Fine Arts, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Kinesiology, Social/Behavioral Sciences, Communication, Classics/Humanities, and Leadership.

 

Major Requirements - 24 credit hours

  • BIO 1402 General Zoology

  • CHE 1402 Chemistry II
