The College of Liberal Arts is currently developing an innovative program in Art. Foundation courses begin with a comprehensive focus on 21st century visual culture including visits to gallery exhibitions and museums. The program encompasses courses in Art History alongside music and theater. In addition to upper level courses in contemporary art theory, a lecture series of guest artists is currently being scheduled for inspiring and sustaining an exploration of emerging art forms.
The refinement of using traditional media such as drawing, painting, photography, ceramics and sculpture coincides with learning the conceptual frameworks for digital applications, public installations, performance and participatory art. Students can either focus on a single medium within their concentration or pursue the articulation of ideas and working methodologies across multiple media. The Department of Art at Concordia is committed not only to the honing of visual skills and the mind, but to the cultivation of the Spirit of Christ in contemporary art-making.
