All incoming freshman and transfer students who have not taken any math or English classes, must take the Accuplacer Placement exam before you can register for class.
The ADP offers intensive coursework in a compressed format designed to complement a full-time work schedule. Attending class only one night each week from 6 10 p.m., you can complete a course in 5 or 10 weeks. Though you will need time to complete homework assignments, this once-a-week format makes it easier to incorporate school with your other responsibilities, such as career and family.
As a general rule, if you begin the ADP with zero credits, you can complete your Bachelor's degree in the same amount of time as a traditional program designed especially for you. If you've already earned most of your core requirements (sometimes called general education credits courses such as Math, English, or History) its likely that you will complete your Bachelor's degree in about 2-3 years.
Each class is academically rigorous, requiring 15 to 20 hours of homework each week. Therefore, taking more than one class at a time is generally discouraged. On occasion, students find it necessary to take more than one course at a time because their daytime workload becomes more flexible, but these are the exceptions to the rule. Concentrating on one class at a time and progressing from one class to the next in sequence allows you to build on recently mastered principles in a manageable way.

Unlike large colleges or online degree programs, the ADP offers small classes with many opportunities for students to interact meaningfully, building friendships, study groups, and professional contacts along the way. ADP students have diverse backgrounds, bringing together adults who have had formative life experiences.
In addition, the program uses a cohort system, grouping incoming students together. This allows students to progress through their classes as a group and provides a built-in support network. You'll meet executives, retired persons, parents, men and women who are masters of their trade, members of the Armed Forces, church workers, assistants in all fields, and entrepreneurs.
Yes. The program offer rigorous, fully accredited, and carefully developed degree programs. The program has long been recognized by numerous Texas employers as a way to bring academic excellence to employees who need a college degree in order to move forward in the workplace. ADP admission and accreditation standards are in line with those of Concordia's traditional program, and because the compressed format of ADP courses allows little time for repetition and procrastination, it makes for an undeniably challenging, stimulating experience. ADP diplomas and transcripts display the same seal as those from traditional programs. ADP students fully participate in commencement exercises alongside traditional Concordia students in December, May, August ceremonies .
The Accelerated Degree Program adheres to a strict attendance policy. As an accredited institution, it's imperative we maintain high standards. Our policy states that students cannot miss the first night of class and/or miss more than four hours of cumulative absence in any one course. Missing four hours of an accelerated class is equivalent to missing 25% of a traditional class. A student who misses four hours or more is dropped from the class and must re-take it at another time. Because the accelerated format allows few catch-up opportunities for those who miss a class or are excessively tardy, absences should be reserved for true emergencies.
Yes, students in the program must be at least 23 years old, or at least 19 years old and meet additional admissions requirements. Students who are ages 19-22 must have high school diploma or equivalent (such as a GED) and be one year out of high school, plus meet one of the following: 1) Works full-time (defined as a regular full-time position with a single employer); 2) Is financially independent (as defined by their IRS status); 3) Has children or other dependents (as claimed for IRS purposes). Students who don't meet the requirements will be evaluated by the admissions committee and may still be eligible for provisional admission to the program.
Yes, every course you need to complete your degree is available through the Adult Degree Program. However, it may be possible for you to pursue other options for earning credits, such as CLEP exams, Prior Learning Assessment portfolios, and transferred credits.
Yes, Concordia University is under the auspices of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and the Christian ethos is reflected in all aspects of our work, including our mission statement: Developing Christian Leaders. Coursework in religion is required of each Concordia student. We welcome students of all faiths and traditions and our religion courses are taught in a spirit of tolerance and respect.
Syllabi for new course are available before classes begin and textbooks may be picked up from the center in your area. Most ADP courses require a considerable amount of independent work before the first class session. This may include reading chapters of text while taking notes in preparation for a test or quiz during the first session, or producing a research paper or analysis before the first night of class. You should prepare 1520 hours for each class session in subsequent weeks. Practical components such as these help to compress the time in which a student processes the elements of a courses curriculum.
In addition, all the classes in the Accelerated Degree Program are written using Adult Learning Theory, namely, Andragogy. Andragogy seeks to facilitate adult learning by encouraging instructors to tie key concepts of each class to the particular life experiences of each student population. Since our students are all adults with real-life experiences, we've found they are also extremely motivated and self-directed learners who do not need the repeated classroom exposure scheduled on a traditional campus.
