Can-Do mission trips

Christ Among Nations-Disciple Outreach (CAN-DO) Missions is now wholly owned and operated by Concordia University Texas. The purpose of CAN-DO Missions is to provide mission opportunities for the CTX community and to connect Texas LCMS District congregations with mission opportunities. You don’t want to miss these upcoming trips!

Upcoming 2020 Trips

CAN-DO Missions has many exciting opportunities coming up, and we would love for you to join us!

Liberia
When: March 13–21, 2020
Estimated Cost: $1,500–$2,000
Need: Passport, visa, shots

Can-Do mission trips

Led by Pat Fick, you will participate in music and drama presentations at churches, schools and villages in the Monrovia area, which is on the west coast of Africa.

Registration Deadline: December 15, 2019

 

 

 

Alpine/Candelaria
When: March 19–22, 2020
Estimated Cost: $375 (includes van transportation)

Led by Mark Boerger, you will serve in medical clinics, working with children and on other projects as needed. Alpine and Candelaria are located in West Texas.

Registration Deadline: January 15, 2020

Guatemala (April or May)
When:

Guatemala 1  April 26 – May 2, 2020
Guatemala 2  May 3–8, 2020

Estimated Cost: $350 + airfare ($600–$800)
Need: Passport, shots

Can-Do mission tripsLed by Pat Fick, you will have the opportunity to serve in medical clinics, participate in home visits and provide children with faith lessons. Guatemala is a country located in Central America.

Cambodia
When: April 26 – May 8, 2020
Estimated Cost: $2,500
Need: Passport, visa, shots

Led by CTX College of Education professor Dr. Grant Carey, CAN-DO will be partnering with Crossing Cambodia. You will work with street kids, train leaders and serve in the ministry center located in Battambang. Cambodia is a country located in Southeast Asia.

Kenya
When: May 23 – June 5, 2020
Estimated Cost: $1,200 + airfare ($1,000 – $1,500)
Need: Passport, visa, shots

Can-Do mission trips

Led by Kevin Pieper and Pat Fick, you will work at Kenya Schools of Hope with CTX alumna Alison (Beck) Achieng. You will also have the opportunity to distribute malaria nets and reading glasses and present the EvangeCube in people’s homes. Kenya is located in East Africa.

Alaska – Hooper Bay, Chevak and/or Akiak
When:

Hooper Bay  June 20 – 29, 2020 (led by Pat Fick)
Chevak          July 1 – 12, 2020 (led by Pat Fick and Joe Moore)
Akiak             July 2020, TBD (led by Grant Carey and Laurence Meissner)

Estimated Cost: $1,800 (one village) or $2,000 (two villages)

Can-Do mission trips

Participate in VBS in the bush villages, youth nights and/or home visits!

Registration Deadline: January 15, 2020

New Orleans
When: July 20 – 25, 2020
Estimated Cost: $200

Can-Do mission trips

Led by Pat Fick, you will work on service projects with various organizations (schools, food pantries, community gardens, a horse rescue ranch, etc.) in the Louisiana city.

Register for a Trip

To register for a trip, please complete the following:

  • Register at http://www.concordia.edu/missiontrip
  • Make deposit payment for trip (typically $100 for domestic trips and $300 for international)
  • Give to Andrea McDonald (F–217)
  • Mail to 11400 Concordia University Drive
    Austin, TX 78726
  • Call 512-313-4332 with your credit card information
  • Complete release paperwork
  • Return completed release paperwork to andrea.mcdonald@concordia.edu no later than one month before your trip

Basic Packing List

Here are the things you will need for your trip:

  • Bible, pen and journal
  • CAN-DO t-shirt and journal
  • Pillow
  • Towel(s)
  • Soap
  • Shampoo
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Personal toiletries and medications
  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Flashlight
  • Work clothes that can be ruined
  • Work gloves
  • Tennis shoes
  • Shoes for leisure/travel
  • Modest sleeping attire
  • Clothing (nothing offensive please)
  • Picture ID
  • Money for snacks and souvenirs

Some sites will require:

  • Sleeping bag/bedroll
  • Air mattress/camp mat
  • Swimwear
  • Light jacket
  • Clothes and shoes for church service
  • Clothes for day of sightseeing/travel

Please note that cell phones and electronics are not prohibited, but they are your responsibility.
