Concordia Texas Business Programs Gain Global Recognition

September 29, 2022

ACBSP Accreditation Signals Highest Ranking for Teaching Universities

Concordia University Texas’ business programs at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree levels have achieved the highest and most-respected accreditation among teaching-focused business programs at colleges and universities by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

“ACBSP certification signals proof of the programs’ rigor and relevance plus greater emphasis on student learning, delivered by full-time faculty,” explains Todd Hostager, interim MBA program chair. “At Concordia, it also means that full-time faculty teach most of the courses and that introductory class sizes stay smaller. That contrasts with research-based institutions like UT Austin where graduate teaching assistants often provide instruction in large lower-level sections. Yet, ACBSP accreditation mirrors the same caliber as the AACSB credential of research-based universities.”

“External validation like this was not easy to achieve, and underscores our commitment to our core values, mission, and vision,” adds President Don Christian. “Concordia Texas serves as the premier university where the adventure of faith, learning, and life-changing experiences leads to meaningful work."

The combination of its SACSCOC (regional accreditation) and the new ACBSP (national/global accreditation) certification for our business programs gives Concordia a distinct competitive edge in the marketplace, in terms of quality and focus. Prospective business students should be looking for both regional and national accreditation to judge the quality of their instruction, and ultimately, the value of their degree, says Hostager.

“We at Concordia do a lot to keep our degrees relevant and desirable for hiring employers, and now we have formal recognition of our ongoing efforts,” says Abigail Pfiester, director of the College of Business and Communication.

Concordia's undergraduate and graduate business programs are unique because of their small class sizes, their focus on practical application, and their career-readiness. Students not only complete internships, but also capstone courses in their respective areas of study. In addition, as a Christian university, Concordia focuses on the whole student--their mind, body, and soul—with an emphasis on ethical leadership and Christian business practices.
