Meet the Centennial Class

“My experience so far has been truly amazing, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of this campus community,” shared freshman Mya Vasquez after her first week of classes.
Mya is part of Concordia Texas’ Centennial Class, arriving 100 years after the first 26 students began their college studies in 1926.
Have you not a boy to send?
That question appeared in an early advertisement for Lutheran Concordia College, encouraging families to continue their sons’ education after high school.
A century later, Concordia Texas looks very different. Students arrived in August with diverse backgrounds, interests and career aspirations, ready to make their own mark on the University’s next 100 years.
Meet a few of the students beginning that next chapter, starting with Mya and her best friend.
Skyler and Mya
God sisters who have been together in school since their early years, Skyler and Mya both are pre-nursing students this year at Concordia. Their moms attended high school together and the families have been connected ever since.
Joshua
Joshua has moved in as a freshman who loves music and Jesus. He will be charting his own course at CTX while honoring the legacy still being established by his grandfather, Dr. Larry Meissner. On the first day of classes, the gentlemen attended the first chapel together.
Rushaun
He’s coming from McDonough, Georgia, but Rushaun was born and raised in Jamaica! The mechanical engineering major speaks multiple languages.
Mackenzie
Arrived knowing that God called her here, Mackenzie has experienced three different high schools and three different colleges. Finding Concordia University Texas, she now feels at home. "Phenominal," Mackenzie repeated!
Issac and Dawson
Roommates and teammates! These students will hit the baseball diamond in the spring, and this fall they are finding connections from hometown associations. Mason Vasquez, Dawson’s older cousin who also played baseball for Concordia, referred his alma mater and now gets to see the next generation follow his path!
Christine
Ava graduated from Concordia in May, and her experience was so impactful! She convinced her sister to transfer colleges and pursue her pre-nursing degree at Concordia.
Kayla
Also, a transfer student, Kayla was looking for a “university feel.” From the moment she met with admissions, Concordia was always the right next academic experience for her.
Mason
The pursuit of ministry brought Mason here. After highshcool, Mason spent time working a trade, caring for a family member, and now he is ready to pursue a degree that will equip him for a life of service to others.
Finley
Concordia was not new to the Fort Worth student. Finley has known others who’ve attended Concordia Texas, and she has been a part of Lutheran summer camp experiences.
Javier
He won’t be too far from home, but Javier’s mom is missing him! Her only child, Javier is attending Concordia with a number of other young men from his high school in San Antonio.
As the first week of our Centennial year comes to a close, we celebrate each class that has attended Concordia Texas and the students who will carry its mission into our second century.
Mya closed her feedback with gratitude: “One thing that has stood out to me the most is how attentive everyone is to students’ needs. I am so thankful for how comfortable and welcomed I have felt, and I am looking forward to everything that the rest of this experience has in store.”
One hundred years, thousands of students and countless stories later, the words that encouraged Concordia’s earliest students still speak to the class walking our campus today: “With God we shall do valiantly.” — Psalm 108:13
