Meet the C.R.E.W.: Jimmy Nkone on Faith, Music, and Finding His Voice at CTX

Say hello to Jimmy Nkone, one of the lead student recruitment representatives with the Recruitment C.R.E.W. (Connect, Relate, Engage, and Welcome) at Concordia University Texas. Jimmy is majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and plans to graduate in Fall 2026.
As a member of C.R.E.W., Jimmy serves in the Welcome Center, where he provides campus tours and offers hospitality to prospective students and their families interested in learning more about Concordia Texas.

When Jimmy is not helping new students feel at home on campus, you can probably find him listening to or writing music, something he’s deeply passionate about.
“Music is how I express what’s in my heart or what’s on my mind,” Jimmy said. “It’s something I love and never get tired of doing.”
Originally from Tanzania, East Africa, Jimmy admits that coming to the U.S. was a big step.
“Back home, my community was really close, so when I first came here, I was scared to step outside of my comfort zone,” he said. “But once I opened up and started getting involved, I made amazing memories and met incredible people. I’m so glad I took that leap early.”
One of his favorite experiences so far has been participating in the Pitch Perfect competition, an event held through the School of Business & Communication in which entrepreneurial-minded students at CTX present their innovative startup ideas, following the format of the television series, Shark Thank.
“I was so nervous at first, but once it was over, I realized how much I’d grown. It helped me see a stronger, more confident version of myself.”
Jimmy doesn’t just stop there. He also serves as the Historian for the Concordia Business Alliance Club, where students build connections with local business leaders and strengthen their professional skills. On top of that, he is active in Campus Ministry, where he joins Thursday night services that help him stay grounded in his faith and close to friends.
“Being part of so many things here has really helped me grow,” Jimmy says. “From business to music, to faith, it’s all shaping who I am becoming. I have learned that stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to the best parts of your story.”
