Join us for Woosh Wednesday!

Every other Wednesday, students gather around the Purple Rock Courtyard to socialize, answer trivia questions, and win free prizes. Created to inspire and grow school spirit, Woosh Wednesday highlights CTX athletics, celebrates our students, and spotlights campus initiatives. From a small opportunity for trivia to a high-quality video production event, how has Woosh Wednesday impacted students at Concordia University Texas?

What is Woosh Wednesday?
At Woosh Wednesday pop-up events, University staff and student workers from the Ultraviolet Student Agency (UV) arrange a tent stocked with immersive games and exclusive merch. Donned in purple, the team inspires school spirit by inviting passing students to participate in the festivities.
“Woosh Wednesday is kind of like our spirit day,” said KB Bowman, Digital Content Specialist at CTX. “Just wear purple, have pride, and spin the wheel!”

How does Woosh Wednesday promote athletics?
While passing students are having fun, the UV team gets to work creating social media content for the University social media channels.
“The main goal right now is to help promote athletics,” said KB. The UV team prepares tailored questions for athletes ahead of time and then interview the athletes at the event.
“Woosh Wednesday helps bridge the gap between the general student population and the student athletes,” said Matt Wallis, Director of Athletics. “It allows for some face-to-face interactions in a playful, safe environment.”
Not only a social event, Woosh Wednesday serves to advertise home games. “Students will watch teams play because they were able to hang out with them briefly at Woosh Wednesday,” says Wallis. “It’s effective because it’s face-to-face interaction.”
How does social media come into play?
Beyond attending the event in person, students can engage in school spirit on social media. The UV team captures the energy at each event by filming short, witty interviews with students and sharing them across campus feeds.
Liliana Cardenas, a first-year student and Digital Content Associate with UV, takes on multiple roles to bring these moments to life. She prepares questions, conducts interviews, and records the process. “You need to have a bond with your audience,” she said. “If you don’t have a bond, there’s nothing there.”
Why promote with social media?
In a world that’s rapidly changing on the technological scale, the UV team has learned how effective Woosh Wednesday can be as a promotion method on social media.
When she was choosing which college to attend, Liliana was surprised by Woosh Wednesday videos on the CTX social media page. “It brought more attention to me because there’s always something going on,” she said. “It doesn’t stop!”
“We’re gradually trying to create a better, more fun environment for the students at all times,” says Wallis.
From the exclusive merch to the spirited interactions, Woosh Wednesday is helping add an extra spark of energy and school pride to the CTX campus.
“You can’t get any of these things at any other event,” said KB. “You’ve got to catch us at Woosh Wednesday!”
