Visa and Immigration Information for International Students
What is the first step for getting a student visa?
Apply online to Concordia Texas and complete your application. Once accepted, you must pay the $3,000 international enrollment fee (instead of the $175/$275 deposit required for domestic students).
- For first-time international students, the $3,000 enrollment fee is due within 7 days of receiving your F-1 visa.
- For transfer students coming from another U.S. school, the fee is due within 7 days of Concordia Texas issuing your new I-20.
After your enrollment fee is received, Concordia will issue your Form I-20 to begin the F-1 visa process.
What is a Form I-20?
The Form I-20 is issued by a Designated School Official (DSO). It allows you to apply for an F-1 visa, prove eligibility for F-1 benefits, and enter/re-enter the U.S. as a student.
What is SEVIS?
The Student Exchange Visitor Information System is a U.S. government database that tracks international student status. Each student has a unique SEVIS ID printed on their I-20.
How long is a student visa valid?
Student visas are valid for the duration of status. You may remain in the U.S. as long as you maintain your F-1 student status.
Cost of Attendance and Financial Support for International Students
Is there an enrollment fee for international students?
Yes. All international students are required to pay a $3,000 enrollment fee, which will be applied toward the total cost of tuition once you enroll.
- First-time in college (FTIC) students: The fee is due within 7 days of receiving their F-1 visa.
- Transfer students from another U.S. school: The fee is due within 7 days of Concordia Texas issuing the I-20.
- Change of status cases (students moving from another visa to F-1) or students who hold an F-1 visa without an active I-20: The fee must be paid within 7 days of the I-20 being issued.
- MBA Student with Initial F1 visa: The fee is due within 7 days of receiving their F-1 visa.
- MBA Transfer students from another U.S. school: The fee is due within 7 days of Concordia Texas issuing the I-20.
This policy helps ensure students requesting an I-20 are committed to enrolling at Concordia Texas and not simply trying to maintain the appearance of valid status without actual plans to attend.
